Sonya Yoncheva brings her excellent interpretation of the convicted courtesan, Violetta Valéry, to her MET Live audience in HD for the first time, playing against the ascending star tenor Michael Fabiano playing her lover Alfredo. Thomas Hampson interprets one of his most famous roles at the Met, that of Giorgio Germont, Alfredo’s father, who is intensely opposed to the affair; this is a return of Willy Decker’s production with San Francisco Opera conductor Nicola Luisotti.
