Valerio Losito

Viola damore
The baroque violinist and viola d’amore player Valerio Losito was born in Rome in 1980. He graduated with highest honours after studying modern violin with Beatrice Antonioni and Yvonne Ekman in Rome (Conservatorio di Musica “Santa Cecilia”) and baroque violin and historical performance practice whit Enrico Onofri in Palermo (Conservatorio di Musica “ Vincenzo Bellini”).
He has performed in concerts throughout Europe, USA, Mexico, Japan, both as chamber musician and with international orchestras. In 2002-2003 he joined the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), performing under the direction of Fabio Biondi,  Reinhard Goebel, Roy Goodman, Paul Goodwin.
Since 2006 he plays a Ferdinando Gagliano (1775) viola d’amore, on loan from the Elsa Peretti Foundation.
Past collaborations include major conductors and early music specialists such as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Federico Maria Sardelli, Simone Toni, Flavio Colusso, René Clemencic and Chiara Banchini as well as performing with early music ensembles and orchestras such us“Concerto italiano”, “Modo Antiquo”, “Il Concerto di Arianna”, “Ensemble Seicentonovecento”, “Il Complesso Barocco”, “Clemencic Consort”, “Le Parlement de Musique”, “Mare Nostrum”, “Silete Venti!”, “Mirabilis Harmonia”, “Orchestra Artes” in international festivals and venues.
As a musicologist Valerio carried out several research projects in libraries all over Italy, and together with Renato Criscuolo he rediscovered Vivaldi’s motet Vos invite, barbarae faces, now identified as RV811.
As a teacher, he held baroque violin and viola d’amore  courses and masterclasses for Associazione Artes Prato,  Festival Alessandro Stradella,  Scuola estiva di Musica Antica a Rieti.
From 2012 to 2013 he was baroque violin teacher at Conservatorio di Musica “Giuseppe Verdi” in Torino.
Valerio’s recordings (until now more than 30) are published by several international recording labels: Brilliant Classics, Dynamic, Deutsche Grammophon, Naive Classic, CPO, WDR3, Terzo Millennio, MR Classic, MD10-France, Outhere Music.
As a soloist, Valerio’s first recording for Brilliant Classics was in 2011: a performance of Domenico Scarlatti’s ‘melobass sonatas’ on the viola d’amore with the harpsichordist Andrea Coen. In 2012 he recorded the album ‘Viola d’amore solo’ (a collection of solo music for this instrument), and in 2014 his first CD dedicated to solo violin sonatas (music by Carlo Tessarini) was released, soon followed by an album featuring the violin sonatas by Francesco Maria Veracini from unpublished sources and the two Bach’s continuo sonatas BWV 1021 & 1023.
Last recordings includes Telemann 1715 violin sonatas and the complete work for viola d’amore and piano by the Austrian composer and musicologist Robert Lach.
ALIAS is the name of his last viola d’amore project in collaboration with the Italian composer Elvira Muratore. Alias is exploration and versatility; a collaboration in pursuit of the ultimate beauty; it is a recital, a theatrical piece, a series of concerts for solo viola and ensemble, with an unlimited amount of possibilities. It will be displayed in 5 chapters, and 5 different nuances of love.
Valerio plays a violin made in Florence by Pier Lorenzo Vangelisti in 1741.
