Mária Devitzaki

Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, she began her musical studies at the age of 10 at the Municipal Conservatory of N. Moudania, where she received a Diploma in Harmony in 2002. In 2010 she completed with Excellency her studies at the University of Macedonia, in the Department of Music Science and Art with a specialization in Voice (class of Prof. Soto Papulkas), while also studying lyrical singing at the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki (class of Barbara Tsambali). Presently, she studies under the guidance of Prof. Cheryl Studer. She has been involved in musico-theatrical performances; most recently (2011), she appeared in the role of Vivika in the operette O Vaftistikos of Theophrastus Sakellarides at the Thessaloniki “Megaron” Concert Hall. She has participated in master classes, and was a finalist in the 25th National Music Competition of the “Thessaloniki Conservatories’ Alumni Association”, in 2009. Also in 2009, she was a soloist in the first performance in northern Greece of the Märchendrama Maienzauber by Nikos Skalkottas, under the musical direction of Prof. George Hadjinikos. She has performed in numerous music festivals, most recently in the AXIA International Festival 2010, (the first Greek festival of classical music which was broadcasted worldwide via the Internet) where she had the honor to work on stage with the renowned pianist, Mr. Ray Luck. As a soloist, she has performed with the Orchestra and the Jazz Ensemble of the Department of Music Science and Art, and with the Chamber Orchestra of Thessaloniki. In summer 2012, she will appear in Detlev Glanert’s chamber opera Drei Wasserspiele in Fürth, Bayern.
