ELLI PAPAKONSTANTINOU: REVOLT ATHENS & THE CAVE

TCH IN COOPERATION WITH THE 54th DIMITRIA FESTIVAL, DIRECTORATE OF CULTURE & TOURISM OF THE CITY OF THESSALONIKI
The performance is in English and Greek, with Greek supertitles

The director Elli Papakonstantinou and the contemporary experimental dance OCD Ensemble present at the 54th Dimitria and in the Thessaloniki Concert Hall two of their most sensational productions, which have been touring Greece and abroad for several years, garnering triumphant reviews from the critics. The ODC creates primarily hybrid works focusing on non-theatre spaces. These works, avant-garde performances that combine text, music, video and installations, broaden the boundaries between reality, political narrative and performance.
REVOLT ATHENΣ (at 20.00h)

A political performance that has been staged continuously since 2015. Far from the usual tourist image, this is a different guide to Athens, but also to Greece itself, within crisis conditions. Demonstrations and tear gas, criticism and poetry, activist communities and ancient mythology become confused in a production that blends actors, video and music in order to present the living reality of a place.

THE CAVE (at 21.45h)

The Cave takes place in a dreamlike yet at the same time nightmarish environment advanced technology. Based on a popular Matrix-type theme, this is a contemporary reinterpretation of Plato’s famous allegory of the “Cave” from his Republic, in which questions such as the relationship between reality and image. This “cyber punk opera”, in which shadow puppetry, new media, visuals and music are all performed in real time by a cast of five, this radical performance calls for critical reflection on fake news and post truth and people’s inability to see reality.
