One of the best-known and successful experimental theatre groups, with a long history and important contribution to British theatre, comes to Thessaloniki for the first time with its latest work, the theatrical performance Real Magic, a demythologising look at the world of television, reality shows and laughter.
Three performers of the Forced Entertainment group create a world of absurd disconnection, struggle and comical repetition. To the sound of looped applause and canned laughter, a group of performers participate in a chaotic game show without beginning or end, caught in a game of ‘second chances’ and ‘second guesses’, distortions and transformations, in which they endlessly revisit their personal defeats and lost hopes. For the audience, this is a journey that dramatises the need for change and freedom from the easy clichés that besiege and entrap us.
According to the critics, Real Magic is the group’s best and most complete work so far. A true paean to the art of theatre. A triumph of stage ‘appearance’, which is not only ‘appearance’ but ‘reality’.
