JAZZ AT THE CONCERT HALL

NATASSA MARE QUINTET (GR/D):
THESSALONIKI MEETS STUTTGART

T.C.H.
After charismatic Greek singer Natassa Mare Moumtzidou and German jazz musicians Hans Fickelscher and Wolfgang Fuhr were enthusiastically received by German audiences in 2013 at Stuttgard’s Theaterhouse and their exceptional second meeting in the framework of the Europäischer Kultursommer Fellbach, the Greco-German trio will meet with excellent Greek jazz musicians Philippos Kostavelis and Gerogios Smyrnis at Thessaloniki Concert Hall to offer another exciting show. Jazz fans can look forward to a high quality concert.
“Charismatic and expressive, stylistically sure-footed, Natassa Mare Moumtzidou moves with exceptional ease from melody to improvisation. An impressive example of creativity on the contemporary Greek music scene, beyond all stereotypes. Along with Hans Fickelscher and Wolfgang Fuhr - two of the most well known German jazz musicians - they succeed in creating a journey beyond any borders, a Greco-German meeting full of sensitivity and sensuality for their Art.  This is not just an exchange between well prepared groups travelling and meeting a different country; it is a musical work in the deeper sense of cultural exchange” (from the Europäischer Kultursommer Fellbach press release).
The quintet creates a unique connection between the Greek soundscape, the traditional, Mediterranean and rembetiko sound and old German folk music - complemented by the compositions of Fickelscher and Fuhr. The themes are immersed in the contemporary jazz soundscape, free improvisation and inter-cultural influences and international music soundscapes.
