T.C.H. - ALTERNATIVE STAGE OF THE GREEK NATIONAL OPERA

The musical Erotokritos was the massive success that inaugurated the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre last May, having excited audiences at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens last season. Dimitris Maramis has penned the music and the libretto, while he also conducts. Direction, choreography and set design are the work of Konstantinos Rigos.
The first musical of the GNP Alternative Stage proved to be one of the greatest successes of the 2016-2017 seasons, walking away with excellent reviews and enthralling the large audiences that attended 10 sold out performances.
Dimitris Maramis has composed a work full of powerful melodies based on Cornaro’s masterpiece, while retaining the iambic metre and Cretan dialect. With Cretan musical influences, references to jazz, blues and even Hatzidakis, the composer has created a new melodic universe for Erotokritos’ thousands of lyrics.
