The first new production at the Met since 1969 of this romantic masterpiece by R. Strauss, conducted by Sebastian Weigle and directed by Robert Carsen, whose latest production at the Met was the successfully staging of Falstaff in 2013. Renée Fleming plays one of the most representative roles as Marschallin, opposite Elīna Garanča in her first performances in America in the role of Octavian, the impulsive young man who inspired the title of the work. The cast also includes Günther Groissböck as Baron Ochs, Erin Morley as Sophie, Marcus Brück, in his debut at the Met, as Faninal, and Matthew Polenzani as an Italian singer. The Knight of the Rose is a co-production with the Royal Opera House, the Covent Garden and the Teatro Regio di Torino.
