THESSALONIKI STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA: BEETHOVEN CYCLE

IN COOPERATION WITH THE THESSALONIKI STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

L.v. Beethoven: Coriolan Overture, Op.62
For piano and orchestra, No 4 in G major, Op. 58
Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68
Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture is inspired by the story of the known Roman general Gaius Marcus; it expresses the dramatic inner conflict of the hero between his desire for revenge against Rome, which exiled him, and his love for his family, which triumphs in the end. The 4th Piano Concert has pride of place in the list of works by the composer, mainly due to its harmonious texture and inexhaustible wealth of melodies. The Sixth Symphony is an exception among the rest; it was named “Pastoral” by the composer himself, who wanted to vividly depict rural life, close to nature.
