CHILDRENS' THEATRE

KARMEN ROUGGERI: THE BARBER OF SEVILLE

T.C.H. - KARMEN ROUGGERI CHILDREN'S STAGE
What started out as a play by Pierre Beaumarchais became world-famous when the great Italian composer Joacino Rossini decided to turn it into an opera.
The Barber of Seville is not a fairy tale. It is, however, a work which contains all the ingredients of a perfect Musical Story. That is to say, it has magic, realism, humour and a very interesting plot. My idea was to turn the opera into a children’s play, with songs adapted to Rossini’s beautiful melodies, so as to offer children an opportunity to hear some classical music, which is so important for the cultivation of their musical faculties.
The work, adapted with the greatest possible care, retains the opera’s melodic parts and transforms its arias and vocal pieces into songs, creating a lovely musical-theatrical whole.
All these come together with narration, dialogues, dancing stage sets, colourful costumes, and a period atmosphere, certain to keep children enthralled.
