One of the most popular operas of recent years which premiered at the Salzburg Festival in 2000, Kaija Saariaho’s nostalgic medieval romance, L’Amour de Loin (Love from Afar), makes its debut performance at the MET.
A production by Robert Lepage, co-produced with L’Opéra de Québec, where it was first performed to great acclaim last summer, in collaboration with Ex Machina. The opera will be conducted by Finland’s Susanna Mälkki, and boasts an all-star line up, including: Susanna Phillips as Clémence, Eric Owens as Jaufré and Tamara Mumford in the role of the Pilgrim who relays the love letters between the two lovers.
