LECTURE: OUR CITY'S WATERFRONT IDENTITY

TCH IN COOPERATION WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF FRIENDS OF THE AMERICAN FARM SCHOOL THESSALONIKI
The American Farm School of Thessaloniki has been operating continuously for 114 years in a city deeply rooted in history.
Its work is supported by the Association of Friends of the American Farm School of Thessaloniki (AFS Association of Friends), highlighting the importance of being in touch with nature, informing the public of the School's priorities and helping them to discover the environment in which it operates.
In this context the AFS Association of Friends and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall are co-organising an info day on the prospects for redevelopment of the waterfront, which stretches around 40 km from the west entrance of the city to Angelohori lighthouse.
The aim is to glean views on current issues regarding Thessaloniki, including the role of the port and coastline. Specifically, as the theme is totally in line with the rationale of the green economy - which the School also promotes -, the waterfront development would be beneficial for the environment acting as a 'green lung', with its green spaces and recreational area. It would also help relieve traffic congestion through the connection of the east, central and west parts of the city.
