ACHILLEAS WASTOR: THE BACH PROJECT

T.C.H.
Bach’s music is an enormous part of the repertoire of western music and has significantly affected even genres such as rock and jazz.
His works were sources of inspiration for romantic composers such as Chopin, who based his own ‘piano’ music on improvisation. The improvisational nature of Bach’s works, along with their symmetry and organisation, inspired generations of musicians who, by developing it, even introduced it to pop culture.
The first part of the concert includes Partita for piano No 4 in D major and Chaconne in D minor, transcribed by F. Busoni, one of the most emblematic works of piano repertoire, as it takes the piano to the limits of its expressive and virtuosity potential.
In the second part of the concert, Achilleas Wastor will improvise on Bach’s themes and structures from the collection The Well-Tempered Clavier, exploring a different aspect, starting from modern jazz to pop music.
