Part A
Iannis Xenakis: Pléïades (1979)

Part B
Iannis Xenakis: Persephassa(1969)

The second part of the concert will take place off-stage and the sound will be very loud.

It has been stated many a time that thanks to the percussion instruments, Xenakis reinstated the subject of rhythm, which was assumed to have vanished from contemporary music.
Through Xenakis’ close collaboration with the ensemble Percussions de Strasbourg two monumental works emerged with a difference of ten years: Persephassa in 1696 and Pléïades in 1979. The former, which deals with the spatiality of sound, constitutes an acoustic choreography. The latter is one of the best works of the composer. The rich timbres, the freedom and cohesion of its composition make this work an extraordinary rhythmic adventure.
