In the context of “Shakespeare Lives”, a global programme of events and activities organised by the British Council, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the English dramatist’s death, Thessaloniki Concert Hall joins its forces with the British Council and the British Embassy in Greece and presents a selection of the most important films of Shakespeare’s plays.
The film Macbeth is going to be presented by Assistant Professor of the Department of Film Studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Ms. Betty Kaklamanidou.

Macbeth (1971) by Roman Polanski
Length: 140 minutes

Roman Polanski presents his nightmarish version of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy on the theme of the bloody consequences of one’s unbridled passion for power.
Jon Finch plays Macbeth, the Scottish hero who, driven by his insane ambition, initiates an unspeakable cycle of violence and blood. Incensed by the supernatural prophecy of three witches, Macbeth is encouraged by his Lady (Francesca Annis) to kill King Duncan and take his throne.
Polanski shot the film in the rough land of North Wales and uses the landscape to highlight the visual and mystical aspects of this major Shakespeare play.
